It's not Digital Media...and it's not something to play with - but a digital media friend has a new tool that might save you time and annoyance!

Wow - it's been awhile as life and work got in the way of posting here, but I had to stop what I was doing to let you know about this.

Shai Berger - the founder of the new company Fonolo just told us that the product is live and open for beta testing.

You might remember him if you followed the digital media world as he was the founder of Streamcheck (checking streaming media quality) that sold to Keynote.

Here's what happens.

You need to call a company.

They are one of many companies that have frustrating voice mail trees. You end up hearing menu upon menu and press 1 or 2 or 4 or 8 and you drill down till you finally find the right department, or find a live person and waste from five to 15 minutes or so of your life every time you call.

Fonolo has a way to avoid the voice mail maze.

Go to their website and visually look through the different directories (in text) and click straight through to your destination. Fonolo calls the company and calls you back and bypasses the "please listen carefully to this message" messages and it's done all the press 1 and press 2 and so on work for you.

How to get the service which is in beta and free!

You sign up and you tell them your phone number.

You find the company on the website you need to call and the place/division/area you want to call.

You can also bookmark where you need to go at this company if it's a company you end up calling from time to time.

Fonolo also lets you take notes about the call on the website, and get this - it has a call history so it tracks when you called the company, and includes your notes about the call.

Are you thinking that you call sometimes from the office and sometimes from home so this won't help you? Fonolo tracks the calls from any three phone numbers you give it, which could be office, mobile, and home.

I just signed up so I'll let you know how long it takes for Fonolo to call me back when I call different companies.

Humm....what does it do about the wait times. That's something I'll learn pretty soon as I play with this.

If you want to see what Shai is saying about his new company. His personal blog is here - http://shaiberger.com/ Oh - and Shai - Congratulations, I hope you and your team will have some time to enjoy the holidays!

MIT Media Lab Conference Badges Track Social Networking Interactions.

Where did you really go at that conference? Who did you almost run into, or who did you run into? MIT Media Labs sent out a crew with conference badges that tracked your move and plotted your path on a graph.

Where's the video of what you looked at? (Coming next, I'm sure.)

Widgeting, Fidgeting, live video searching

Adding Widgets to a blog. that's a must do...who does it best. What's the best video widget? Do we have video widget interoperability? Can you hack a widget? (of course - you can hack anything given enough time and smart people.)

Live Blogging, egocasts, feel alive casting, on live blogging that's consumer based....what are they showing and what is the video besides porn?

Humm....wonder if there is a page of agregated live blog links. Nobody's search engine can pull up live video....well, go to a search engine and key in a live event happening on TV, say it's the debates, do you see a link on the first page to the live video. Wonder how long it's going to take a good one to come about. I expect a hear about a slew of startups, actually more looking into this.

My video filters are not good enough and I can't stack the videos up for playin easily and then the video playing is bumped for a live event of priority.

Collection Point

I''m collecting interesting things to me here. So who knows!
